How to Change the World

How to Change the World is an online course offered by Wesleyan University in the United States. Ideal for anyone who is interested in activism, the course examines how those who are concerned with issues like gender equality, education, health care, poverty and the environment can strive to make a difference in the world. The class consists of seven week-long units: What are Social Goods? From the Commons to Moral Revolutions, Poverty and Development, Climate Change and Sustainability, Disease and Global Health Care, Women Rights, Education and Social Change.

To complete How to Change the World, students will need to invest 1 to 3 hours per week to study the course material. Each unit consists of a series of videos and at least one reading. After viewing and reading the course material, students are expected to complete a weekly culminating writing assignment. At the end of the course, students complete a written peer review. Passing grades are required on all assignments to receive a paid certification.

Climate Change Mitigation in Developing Countries

Climate Change Mitigation in Developing Countries is an online course offered by the Energy Research Centre at the University of Cape Town in South Africa. This intermediate course requires basic knowledge of climate change and sustainable development and is offered free of charge. The course duration is 6 weeks. The focus of the class is on how countries that are working to grow and develop their economies can successfully address climate change problems without hindering economic advancement.

To complete all of the requirements for Climate Change Mitigation in Developing Countries, students will need to spend roughly 1 to 3 hours studying every week. For each week, students watch a series of short videos and complete two readings. A quiz or a short writing assignment can be completed based on the course material. Students who pass all of the quizzes and assignments may opt in for a paid verified certificate.

Disaster Preparedness

Disaster Preparedness is an online course offered through the University of Pittsburgh in the United States. This class , which addresses the general public, seeks to educate people on how to best prepare their homes and their families for all types of disasters. Over the course of the class, students work to create their own disaster preparedness plans that can be implemented during a time of crisis.

In total, Disaster Preparedness requires 10 to 15 hours of study time to complete. The class is designed to be completed over a 7-week period. Students are offered one to seven videos to watch on a weekly basis and one to five readings to read in order to supplement the material covered in the videos. Other units require students to complete short writing assignments or submit a portion of their personal disaster preparedness plans for review. Those who receive passing grades on all quizzes and assignments will pass the course
