Some off-campus hostels of the Bayero University in Kano state were raided by officials of Hisbah police, arresting students of the opposite sex found in the same room.
The incident reportedly happened on Wednesday night, March 24, at Danbare, a small community directly opposite the university’s gate.
According to reports, the Islamic police broke into the students’ rooms and took them to their office. This made other students in the neighborhood keep vigil all through the night out of fear of the unknown.
The Hisbah group is widely known for its unconventional approach to enforcing Sharia laws in some northern states in the country.
